9 STEPS TO BECOMING AN INSTRUCTOR

1. Review Information
Your first step to becoming a franchised Jazzercise instructor is to review the information below.

2. Complete Franchised Instructor Application
Next, complete the Franchised Instructor Application and submit it to the district manager in your area 8-10 weeks prior to workshop.

3. Attend Movement Screening
As an applicant, you must demonstrate appropriate leadership and movement skills to a district manager or his/her representative during a movement screening. To schedule a movement screening, fill out the online form or contact the district manager in your area.

4. Receive CPR Certification
After passing the movement screening, you will need to submit proof of CPR certification (or intent to become CPR certified prior to the workshop date) to the district manager.

5. Schedule a Workshop
After submitting CPR certification (or intent to become CPR certified prior to the workshop date) to the district manager, you will be scheduled to attend a workshop.

6. Review Franchise Agreement and Offering Circular
You will receive a Franchise Agreement and Offering Circular from Jazzercise, Inc. specific to your state or country approximately 6 weeks prior to your scheduled workshop date. After reading and carefully reviewing the Franchise Agreement, submit your signed original to Jazzercise, Inc. 2460 Impala Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92010 Attn: Franchise Services.

7. Study Training Materials
After submitting your completed Franchise Agreement and approximately 2-4 weeks prior to the workshop date, you will be mailed training materials, including training and choreography videos, choreography notes and music, and a fitness resource book.

8. Prepare for and Attend the Workshop
You must review the materials, prepare for the workshop, and learn several Jazzercise routines, some of which you will present during a practical exam. The workshop trainer in your area may offer optional practice sessions.

9. Receive Certification
Upon passing the practical exam and completing the entire workshop, you become a franchisee and certified Jazzercise instructor.

THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS
The start-up investment for a Jazzercise franchise is surprisingly affordable.

Regular Status (class owner)
The initial franchise fee is $1000 in the United States and $500 in other countries. The monthly Continuing Franchise Fee is 20 percent of gross revenues. Additional expenses include:
• A yearly liability insurance premium available through Jazzercise, Inc. Approximate cost is $180 to $220.
• Audio recordings to accompany the new workout routines. Approximate cost is $50 to $100 per routine set.
• ASCAP/BMI musicians' royalty fees. Fees average between $41 and $80 per year for each licensing organization and are determined by the number of participants attending your class(es).
Equipment, including:
• A sound system (e.g. an audio cassette/CD player with microphone attachment);
• A DVD player to view and learn new routines;
• A computer system: a PC, printer, access to e-mail and the Internet, and the Jazzercise JFAS software (Windows-based); and a telephone answering machine.
• Facility rental and promotional costs.

As a newly franchised instructor, you will teach your first class for an investment as low as $2,980 using public facilities rented by the hour, or approximately $7,980 to $33,130 if you lease a commercial site and open a Jazzercise Fitness Center.

Substitute Status (associate/floating sub)
The initial franchise fee is $1000 in the United States and $500 in other countries. Additional expenses include:
• A yearly liability insurance premium. (Available through Jazzercise, Inc.)
• Yearly substitute fee of $100.
• Audio recordings. (The current policy is that subs are not required to buy all music, subs may pick and choose.)
• Equipment, including: A DVD player to view and learn new routines and a telephone answering machine.
• Access to equipment meeting the standards specified in the Franchise Agreement and Manuals.

CORPORATE SUPPORT

Once franchised, instructors are far from alone in their Jazzercise business. Each instructor receives a wide variety of quality support services from Jazzercise, Inc.
• Choreography Every 10 weeks, instructors receive a DVD of approximately 28 new and innovative routines choreographed by program founder and professional dancer Judi Sheppard Missett. These routines are pre-approved by a health and fitness specialist to ensure the safest and most effective workout. Free from the time-consuming responsibility of creating choreography week after week, instructors can focus their attention on operating a fun and challenging business.
• Business Center Instructors can search choreography notes in the online Jazzercise Routines Database. This database features specially programmed elements to help franchisees put together class sets.
• Instructor Zone An online resource center, the Instructor Zone, houses business tools and information used by all instructors to promote their businesses.
• District Managers Instructors receive business and instruction guidance from district managers, all of whom are instructors themselves, and from corporate staff.
• 1(800)FIT-IS-IT The toll-free 1(800)FIT-IS-IT line is answered by customer service representatives who offer worldwide class information to customers, process business item orders from instructors, and take Jazzertogs fitness apparel orders from customers.
• Class Formats Jazzercise offers a variety of class formats to appeal to customers of all ages and fitness levels, which allows instructors to target specific markets.
• Marketing Jazzercise Inc. provides marketing expertise and materials, including print advertisement templates, nationally coordinated cross-promotions, and TV and radio spots, to name a few.
• Public Relations Judi Sheppard Missett and Shanna Missett Nelson regularly travel throughout the U.S. and internationally to fitness conventions, speaking engagements, and media interviews to promote Jazzercise.
• Education A continuous flow of timely information on health/physiology, marketing, public relations, teaching techniques, and accounting methods is supplied through a franchisee hotline, newsletter, regional conventions, and local district meetings.
• Incentives The Further Instructor Training (FIT) program awards credits for selected readings, course work, and educational seminars. Jazzercise also recognizes franchisees for years of service.
• Community Service Instructors are encouraged to participate in community service opportunities, including Jazzercise's Kids Get Fit program for local schools and Jazzercise sponsored benefit classes to raise money for charities of choice.
